Aurum is a noun meaning 'derived froms of gold'.
Aurous is an adjective to describe anything pertaining to or containing gold.
I guess it depends on how you read the question as to whether you are looking for the noun or the adjective.

It'll be aurous. As in ferrous, stannous and so on. When a metallic element has two valencies, the lower valency is described by an -ous ending, and the higher by an -ic ending. There is a word auric for the higher valency of gold, but as a six letter word was asked for, aurous is the answer. The two valencies are 1 for aurous, and 3 for auric. Normally, a metal salt is known by the English name for the metal - i.e. aluminium chloride - but where there are two valencies names from Latin are used. Ferrous is iron, stannous tin, cuprous copper and so on.
