Which everyday item, worn by many people, (er, not me) is also part of the mechanics of a cannon, a connection to a back-sword, and is made out of something that is literally pronounced like the name of a cartoon dog?

Question #72134. Asked by peasypod. (Nov 08 06 10:54 PM)

A coil. Worn by women as a contraceptive device and is part of the firing mechanism of a cannon. Not sure about the backsword connection but they are definitely made out of copper, which is pronounced exactly like the name of Copper from 'The Fox and The Hound'.

Sorry, wendy. Nice thought process though.

This functional item seems to be a fashion statement these days, and the cartoon dog made a comeback only a few years ago, on the big screen.

That would be Scooby Doo. But what the heck is it you speak of?

Scoubido is a kind of plastic thread that is used to weave anything from key rings to model cars. That is as far as I have got. Still need to work on the rest of it!

Ok, you guys have the dog. Now work backwards.

Are we talking underwear here? I had no idea that Peasy went 'commando'

No not underwear, although once you find out the answer it could be applied to a certain type of female lingerie, albeit a little scratchy....

OK, Frankie, if you're out there, I've seen quite a few Museum employees wearing these, perhaps a certain art historian might wear one, er, perhaps not, but it's worth a try for a clue.

Most people in the security trade wear them, but I have witnessed one or two of those who couldn't possibly want or need all the things that this item warrents.

Yeah, I'm here, and I really did intend to let the players who had started working on this question before I saw it proceed to the conclusion.

But since they have not, I'm going to suggest that you are talking about a "lanyard":

Going around in circles gets tedious after a while, I had to take drastic measures, you see.

So, I guess you can see how one of these things could be a lingerie statement.....I've seen some hideous things on men in Calabria (on the beach) let me tell you.

Righto, a Golden Key for you to hang, dear.

Understood. The Maven and I own several lanyards from our various museum and university employers. It occurs to me that we could create a very weird chandelier out of them.
