Does gum really take 7 years to digest?

Absolutely not. Gum, especially sugar free variations with xylitol and aspartame as opposed to standard sugar sweetening, takes noticeably longer for your body to process and can upset your digestive system. There's no reason to gulp it down, unless caught by a teacher, hehe. If you do accidentally swallow gum, never fear. 7 years? Does this coincide with the whole mirror jabberwocky?
Here's a nice reference from Ask Yahoo:

Hope that helps!

Luckily for us, it doesn't take seven years (as lots of myths have it). In fact, our stomach doesn't digest gum at all! Since it's made out of soluble fiber, chewing gum passes right through us. So gum comes out with the rest of your waste, usually a day or two after you eat it.
