Members of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences voted to add the Best Animated Film category to the Oscars beginning with the awards ceremony held in 2002. The first animated movie to win an Oscar in the specialized category was "Shrek." Fast forward to 2005 and "Shrek 2" is now competing for the title of Best Animated Film. Can the sequel equal the success of the original? Here’s how this year’s animated nominees stack up:

Well...let's see...this says: In 1991 Disney produced an animated film of Beauty and the Beast with screenplay by Linda Woolverton, music by Alan Menken, and lyrics by Howard Ashman. It won Academy Awards for Best Song and Best Original Score and is the only animated feature to be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.

Then if you take THAT information and parle it over to this site...you will see that there has never been an animated film that has won BEST PICTURE...unless, of course...I'm missing something...
