Help needed: would anyone know of a movie, possibly 60s or early 70s, a comedy western which ended with someone striking oil, with indians staring at the gusher from atop a high ridge, then shrugging and saying "Ah, who needs it?"

Nope. I know that film, and saw it recently. Ain't that. I think this is pretty obscure...

I believe this may be "Texas Across the River" (1966) starring Dean Martin and Joey Bishop.

Review -
Texas Across The River
Delon is a Spanish nobleman who flees his wife-to-be and the law after being wrongly accused of murder. He hooks up with gun runner Martin and his Indian sidekick Bishop. Indian attacks and oil wells supply most of the chuckles. Eventually, everyone becomes romantically involved. It's the usual fare from Martin and Bishop; they just don't belong in westerns. The Kingston Trio sings the title tune.

Hmm. Thanks McGruff, but I just dont think so. I don't recall Dean Martin or anyone famous being in it. I could be wrong of course: it's been a long time since I saw it, and I remember virtually nothing about it.
I had some sort of mad idea it might be called "Wholly Moses", but I'm pretty sure my memory is getting corrupted here, and mixing up two movies.

This was a spoof on westerns, with terribly goofy Indians (Joey Bishop in the fakiest Hollywood "Native" wig imaginable), the calvary was led by Peter Graves and everytime you see them, he gives an order that sounds like "To the rear, har!" and they turn around. There's one scene where the Frenchman (Delon) slaps Martin with his glove, which Martin finds all too "sissy" being the "wild" west and such. I can't really remember what the oil had to do with anything, but the oil well gushes near the end splattering everyone and someone says something like, "Now we have to move the town," and unless I'm confusing it with something else entirely, I'm positive it ended with the Indians on the ridge.

Another scene I remember is the Indians riding along rather sneakingly and I guess it's Bishop that gets his head knocked on a low-hanging tree branch. I'm hoping any of this sounds familiar to you! LOL I remember it being very funny, so I think I may have to order it.
