Ents are a fictional race from J. R. R. Tolkien's fantasy world of Middle-earth. These Ents are very different from traditional Ents, appearing as humanoid trees. They appear to have been inspired by the talking trees of many of the world's folklores. See tree (mythology) for more information.
As with Hobbit, Ent is a term that in modern times is almost exclusively connected with J. R. R. Tolkien, and the usage of the term seldom evokes in people its earlier meanings.

No. Ents are tree shepherds not trees. There are many trees in the various forests of Middle Earth that are more or less sentient - Old Man Willow for one - but Ents are no more trees than a human shepherd is a sheep. There are also Huorns, about whom there is uncertainty. They could be Ents that have so to speak vegetated, or trees that have developed much further that even Old Man Willow. They can walk, but are not intelligent enough to take part in the Entmoot. Some trees could move - the trees in the Old Forest adjoining Buckland did when they tried to attack the hedge, but there were no Ents in the Old Forest at the time Hobbits were around. There is no hint that these trees were Huorns, either.
