    How did New Hampshire become the first primary state in US presidental elections?

    		The New Hampshire Legislature decreed this in the 1970's, partly on the basis of some early decisions, regarding moving from a caucus to a primary, made in the second decade of the 20th century. The New Hampshirites are quite proud that they've arranged for their primary to be the first:
