When was the term "macking" used and what does it mean?

Hmm...back when IRC (Internet Relay Chat) was in its height (1996-2000) and IM'ing wasn't popular (or widely available) yet, we used to refer messaging someone (within IRC)as "macking" someone.

My Webster dictionary also mentions "mack" as an interjection, a mild oath, possibly an euphemism for Virgin Mary.
