What writer said something to the effect of, "There are always negative consequences to doing good"?

I suspect that a several writers have said something along these lines. The famous statement "No good deed goes unpunished" has been attributed to, among other others, Clare Boothe Luce and Oscar Wilde, but it seems that the origin is actually unknown:
