The term for the office of the President is four years and, until the ratification of the 22nd Amendment, there were no limits about how many times a person could run for the office.
*
FDR was elected to the office four times.
*
This matter is now regulated by the 22nd Amendment (1951) which establishes that: "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once...”

10 years.
Two years replacing a president who has died, stepped down, or forced out from office and then two full terms of four years each.

The Twenty-second Amendment of the United States Constitution sets a term limit for the President of the United States, providing that "No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice, and no person who has held the office of President, or acted as President, for more than two years of a term to which some other person was elected President shall be elected to the office of the President more than once."
