    What links the books of Ecclesiastes and Ruth?

    		Both are included among the "five scrolls" (Heb. "chamesh ham'gilot") in the Old Testament (the other three being the Song of Songs, Lamentations and Esther). The one book (Ruth) deals with the ancestry of David, the other attributed to his son. Both are read in synagogues in the same plainchant melodic mode (though the Song of Songs is as well). What specifically is supposed to be the answer here?

    		Ruth was married to Boaz.

    Their son was Obed, father of Jesse, and grandfather of David. The sixteenth son of David was Solomon.

    Solomon wrote Ecclesiastes.
