This band, formed in a Southern US city with the same name as a major European city, once had a song parodied by Muppets and was a highlight in a recent anti-war documentary. Which band is it, what is the song and how was another band from the same city involved with the parody?

R.E.M. was founded in Athens, Georgia, and its song "Shiny Happy People" was parodied as "Furry Happy Monsters" on "Sesame Street." It was also featured in Michael Moore's "Fahrenheit 9/11."
As for the other Athens band, the B-52's Kate Pierson did the backing vocals on "Shiny Happy People." That's the best I can do.

Nice One Frankiebabe, one of my favourite REM tracks but I like it better done with the monsters, the look on Peter Buck's face is indescribable.
And I never knew Wiki had a Muppet subsidiary.
