I'm going to hazard a guess.
At the time of Bill Clinton's inauguration in January of 1993, there were five former presidents alive: Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan, and George H.W. Bush. Nixon died in 1994. However, between Clinton's departure from office and Ronald Reagan's death in 2004, there were again five former presidents alive: Ford, Carter, Reagan, George H.W. Bush, and Clinton.
Owing to lower life expectancies in the 18th, 19th, and early 20th centuries, I strongly suspect that during no previous period of U.S. history were five former presidents alive simultaneously, but if you want to be certain, you can work it out with the help of the site below:
