I think it was John Adams, who left office in 1801 at the age of 65 and lived to be 90. That made 25 yrs.
My internet connection is most tenuous at the moment, so no reference...and I could be wrong.

Ford left office in January 1977. He died in December 2007. That is nearly 31 years.
