Mexican Wave is a song by Kerbdog and a single released on January 3, 1997, taken from their second album On The Turn. The single was released on three different CD singles. The B-sides are live recordings of various tracks from On The Turn and Kerbdog. http://www.answers.com/Mexican%20Wave%20

Goes back to the 1980s at least, and nothing to do with the song - except perhaps in reverse! Actual origins much disputed, but seem to be in the USA about 1980-1. It is also called 'audience wave' or 'ola' (Brazil), but gained the name Mexican Wave when the Brits took it up after the World Cup in Mexico, 1986 (name also used in Australia). This name would probably not be so much used in the USA for the wave as the interest in soccer wasn't so great. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Audience_wave and http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings/246700.html

In the US we call this popular fan display simply The Wave.

When the crowd at a sporting event take turns standing and holding their arms in the air. They then sit back down and the group next to them do the same thing so it looks as though a wave is going through the crowd. It originated in about the 1980s
