The Cook Islands have their own currency, the Cook Islands dollar. Is this currency in regular use, or do the islands use the NZ dollar?

Question #74747. Asked by author. (Jan 19 07 5:40 PM)

According to the CIA and xe.com, the Cook Islands use the New Zealand dollar. According to Wikipedia, there is a Cook Islands dollar equal to the NZ dollar, but not valid in NZ. I think it works a bit like Guernsey, Jersey and the Isle of Man. There, UK money is accepted, but not vice versa. Apparently, the Cook Islanders prefer NZ dollars, so the local currency may go out.
