    		According to IMDB he appeared in 4 episodes between 1970 and 1973. I would have it would have been more

    Sam is sometimes perceived to have appeared in many of the show's episodes. While he is frequently mentioned in dialogue, Sam actually appears in only eight episodes, although his appearances span all the seasons.
