A popular belief is that the drink was named after Morrison's former employer in Texas, but this has been disputed by the Dr Pepper company itself. They state that before moving to Texas, Morrison lived in Virginia near a Dr. Charles T. Pepper, and may have been close to Pepper's daughter at the time. The name is also reinforced by being an obvious play on "pep", i.e. providing quick energy to its consumer.

Forgive me, skysmom, but some people might ask, "Who is Morrison?" And since this question has been asked before, I have to ask, what's happened to Charles Alderton in your answer?
I'm sorry, but this is one of the problems created by copying and pasting.

OMG...this is the most God AWFUL green website I have ever seen...(see link) Dr. Pepper created by Charles Alderton, a young pharmacist who worked at Wade Morrison's drugstore.
QUOTE: "A letter from W. H. McCullough, former Treasurer of the Artesian Manufacturing and Bottling Company, states that at a stockholders meeting Morrison told the story that, "When he (Morrison) was a young man and living at Wytheville, Virginia, he was very much in love with a Miss Pepper whose father was a physician there and he gave the beverage the name because of his admiration for the young lady." The 1870 United States Census shows a seventeen year-old Morrison living in Christiansburg, Virginia, (Montgomery County) working as a druggist clerk. Also listed in the 1870 Census in Christiansburg was Dr. William R. Pepper and his family, including Minerva A. Pepper, his sixteen-year-old daughter.

Vis a vis Dr Pepper..I heard/read somewheres where the AMA (American Medical Association) apparently raised the roof legally, many years ago, about using the word Doctor or the official abbreviation of the word Doctor before the Pepper name..To solve a major problem, the Dr Pepper company simply stopped using Doctor and eliminated the period or dot in the abbreviation of Doctor..Note the word Dr. with the period, never appears on/in any of their ads bottles, etc etc..Regards from Rosemere, Quebec.
