Kansas
"Jotham Meeker came to Kansas in 1833 as a missionary to the Shawnee Indians. It was at the Shawnee Baptist Mission that Jotham Meeker set up his printing press. This Mission was the first printing house in Kansas and published the first Indian-language newspaper in the Nation. The first document printed in Kansas was a 24-page Delaware language primer. Jotham published many books and New Testaments in the Shawnee, Creek, Choctaw, Otoe, Pottawatomie, Wea, Delaware, Osage, Kaw, Miami, and Ottawa languages. Many other Missions used his publications. He developed a system using 23 letters to print these native languages"

Oklahoma--"In 1828, Elias Boudinot, a Cherokee Native leader, became editor of the first Native American newspaper. The word Phoenix came from the name of a mythical bird that rose from ashes of a fire. The newspaper was printed in both English and Cherokee, bringing many tribes from the Cherokee Nation together."
