For the answer to this and ANY Biblical question see 'Strong's Exhaustive Concordance'. This reference text compiles statistics of the Bible in ways no Mortal Human would have ever thought!

Approx. 31,273 --
"The Bible is like a small library made up of 66 books. It has two big sections: the Old Testament and the New Testament. The Old Testament has 39 books, and the New Testament has 27 books. In these 66 books, you will find a total of 1,189 chapters containing about 31,273 verses."

Some versions of the Bible (NIV) OMIT verses! OMIT!
"When we compare the Greek manuscripts underlying the NIV, NAS and other modern versions to the Greek manuscripts of the time-honored and trustworthy King James Version (KJV), we find that there are over 5,600 changes."
"There are 17 verses that are in the KJV, but are completely omitted from new Bible versions. Some versions may have brackets around them or footnotes that cast doubt."

Some of the verses in the earlier versions of the Bible are reckoned to be, and appear to be, later glosses that have been copied by the monks as if they were part of the original text.

All in all, the/any of the Bibles we are familiar with today are, at best, a loose interpretation of what is real. Therefore I have to conclude that what we read in these books taint quite right. Lacking the whole truth.
