Which vegetable was once descibed in a daily publication as 'obscene', and why did that comment result in a law suit?

Well, Italian food critic Edoardo Raspelli reviewed a McDonald's in "La Stampa" and described the potatoes as "obscene" (and tasting of cardboard). McDonald's rather stupidly struck back with a lawsuit.

Yup, that's the one, Frankie. And for the record I don't think I've ever been in any fast food joint where the ambience was anything BUT mechanical.

Actually, I don't think the words 'ambiance' and 'fast food joint' should really be allowed in the one sentence.

I'm almost sure I read several years ago about Carl Karcher hosting restaurant bigwigs at a sit-down dinner in a Carl's Jr. Maybe I dreamed it; I sure can't find a reference. That joined "ambience" and "fast food joint" in one evening. (I looked it up--you can spell it both ways, just like you did. :} )
