What sea was described by the ancients as "the hospitable one" but also, and possibly more correctly, as "the inhospitable one"?

The 'Euxine' or the 'Black Sea' was referred to by the Ionian Greeks as the 'hospitable one' but may have been a euphemism intended to 'placate aquatic furies' due to the sudden treacherous storms and difficulty in passing. The name change taking place after the Milesian occupation.

Excellent. Deserves a free boat-excursion on the Pontus Euxinus with Russian tea prepared with boiling water poured from the finest local silverware.

The extremely well-known original is of a sort of recycled and enlarged design, and a much more recent version has a Cheshire ice cream connection. I'm looking for a book title which is something like "Four Acres of Blessed Land." The author, possibly Kerouac or Ginsberg, tells how to become a free man by owning land, possibly four acres. By living from it, a man can become independent, as much as possible, from the state, church etc. Anyone know the name of the book?

What is the name and who is the author of a teen fiction series from the late 1980s or early 1990s which featured a group of friends, who I think are juniors or seniors in high school living in a small town, possibly near a lake or ocean, with some of the friends dating each other, and possibly two of the characters names were Ben and Claire, and one of the characters was definitely a good looking blind guy?
