Which states or countries are (or were) named after businessmen?

Question #75921. Asked by author. (Feb 15 07 9:13 PM)

Zambia and Zimbabwe were formerly one country known as Rhodesia, after an English businessman named Rhodes. Otherwise, I should suggest you define the term "businessman", as Amerigo Vespucci crossed the Atlantic for his own financial gain.
