Who is the oldest person ever to go into space?

John Glenn lifted off for a second space flight on October 29, 1998, on Space Shuttle Discovery's STS-95 in order to study the effects of space flight on the elderly. At age 77, Glenn became the oldest person ever to go into space.

The oldest person ever to fly in space was Glenn. Ironically, his friend Allen Shepard was the oldest man to walk on the moon, and Deke Slayton was the oldest person to go into space for the first time (in 1975, for the Apollo-Soyuz mission).

If somebody went on a space-walk upon working on the space station, a very loose example, and then became detached from the station, i.e. floating freely in space, would it be possible for the person to move themselves closer to the Earth or actually re-enter the Earth's atmosphere by some sort of swimming motion, for want of a better expression?

I recently heard the host of a nationally broadcast radio show state that there is enough retail space in the United States to provide a living space for each person in the country. I believe this includes unoccupied retail space. Could this statement be true?
