Is bottled water or tap water better for you in the average American home?

Question #76507. Asked by chiynita. (Feb 28 07 8:30 AM)

Not that much difference, some bottle water companies merely use tap water.

Also the quality of tap water varies where one lives.

I have been to "Designer Water" plant in Atlanta. It draws water from the Chattahoochee River, runs it through filters and then sells it to the unsuspecting Public!

Neither water is "better" for you unless there is a SERIOUS pollution problem with your local tap water.

Place tap water in a container, let it sit in your fridge for a day and it WILL taste like bottled water. Little taste at all. All of the metal tastes will have disappeared. (unless you live in Florida. Nothing fixes the water there!)

Most tap water is clorinated there may be health risks to such treatment
"The US Council of Environmental Quality states that, "[t]he cancer risk among people drinking chlorinated water is 93% higher than among those whose water does not contain chlorine" (Showering in Tap Water, 2001)"

Many municipalities ar floride to the water. This practice greatly reduces tooth decay.

Bottled water often contains mineral and other substance that may be harmfull in large enough quanities. i.e. the Perrier recall because of benzene.

Yes Toughy. I tend to agree but.....Where does on draw the line concerning living. Not life, but living. If we are to consumed with the "uh-oh ! Better not. Could cause cancer stuff" how does one live life to the fullest.

Never met a happy, satisfied health nut!

Not to play Russian Roulette. But not to miss the Forest because of the mess on the ground!

Water is not going to kill you! Lack of it will.

Is distilled water meant for drinking and does it have a longer shelf life than your 'run of the mill' bottled water?

Depending on the answers to my other questions, which is better to store as drinking water in case of emergency, bottled, distilled, unsealed tap water, or one or more of the above?
