To make a any food sour, your add citric acid. The acid is what causes your tongue to feel that way.

citric acid reacts on the taste bud receptors on the parts of the tongue that sense sour, causing a sour sensation.

Have you ever had multiple "tiny cuts" on your tongue? If not, then allow me to tell you that sour and cuts are dissimilar in sensation!

Sour patch kids taste good and are very sour. Usually you buy these at the movies or something, but after a few minutes of eating them you start to feel something weird in your mouth. As you eat more and more sour candy your tongue begins to split open and you now have a huge slit down your tongue which burns whenever anything touches it.
This is not the best language on this site, but it gives a reasonable answer.
