Basil Fawlty famously gave his car a "damn good thrashing". Which make and model of car and a branch of which plant were involved in this scene?

Question #77032. Asked by gmackematix. (Mar 10 07 6:25 PM)

There is, apparently, even a die-cast model of the scene ...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gourmet_Night further states the model as an Austin 1300 Estate.

It was one of the "Austin 1100/1300" group but you don't have the exact model yet.
Corgi got the wrong model when they made a toy for the BBC.
But then some people mistakenly think Delboy's van is a Reliant Robin...

Anyway, having little interest in vehicles, I'd be more interested to know what the branch was.

I'll offer the BMC ADO16, which was one particular model of the Austin Estate. But, having little interest in cars beyond how many cup-holders they have, I'm not too fussed if the Earl Grey doesn't make it.

The car is an Austin 1100 Countryman, but I want to know what the bloody branch is!
You done this to me once too often. I'll give you to the count of three to tell me. One...two...three.
Right! That's it, I'm going to give you a damn good thrashing...

Maybe have a look see at the "corner of Lapstone Gardens and Mentmore Close in Kenton. Twenty-four years on, it's largely unchanged, and if the local council had any sense, they'd put up a plaque."
