I believe it is bagel though most resources I'm looking at say that it comes from the German word for "bracelet". Perhaps, that word came originally from Italian.

The bagel is Central European in origin.
The snack I have in mind originated in Southern-Germany and has a knot-like shape.
Its name is related to Latin bracellus and its Italian derivation bracciello. Guess this should make it easy enough.
