Do American Football and Rugby have any relation to each other?

Question #77668. Asked by darkpresence. (Mar 22 07 1:59 PM)

    Eolena

Yes, American Football (aka gridiron) developed as a variation of rugby.

This site gives an interesting account of what "gridiron" was like before the introduction of the forward pass, which is said to have permanently severed the relationship with rugby.
