After the Assyrian conquest of Samaria and the Northern Kingdom of Israel, the ten northern tribes were assimilated into the Assyrian culture and dispersed throughout that empire. They forgot thier Hebrew roots and eventually, as time persisted, they lost all identity related to Israel, and and a few hundred years after the fall of the Roman Empire in the West, the whole middle eastern area that contained the mixed decendents of the ten northern tribes converted to Islam (as the rest of the middle east did). Mormonism believes that the Native Americans are decendents of the ten lost tribes of Israel.

There are also communities across southern Asia and even in Africa which claim to be descended from the lost tribes. One of these is a clan in western India which claims to be of the tribe of Menasheh.

According to the Armstrongites (The Church of God) (the Plain Truth lot), the British (and the British Americans) are one of the Lost Tribes, and Herbert W. demonstrated this by linguistic analysis in one of his articles in Plain Truth. I wish I'd kept it. One of the best laughs I'd had in a long time....
