What is the difference between hats and caps?

Question #77964. Asked by armindasantana. (Mar 28 07 3:48 PM)

Hats are different from caps, thus being more elaborate. Hats have a high crown and/or a brim. They are larger than caps, in other words.

Caps have crowns that fit a bit closer than hats and they have a visor. They are generally used for warmth and when they have visors, they are used to block the UV rays from the sun.

I would say that a cap has a brim at the front whereas hats either have none or a full brim.

Caps have many forms. Bottle caps, salary caps, bust a cap in ya.
