Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, the lunar module pilot of Apollo 11, was the second person to walk on the lunar surface, on July 20th/21st of 1969 (depending on where you were on Earth). Aldrin also has the title of the first person to step off of the lunar surface. His steps and those of his commander, Niel Armstrong, made the Sea of Tranquility (their landing site) into one of the most famous places not on our planet.

Among Aldrin's other distinctions was that he was the first person to be photographed (by a still camera) on the moon. While a video camera caught a grainy picture of Armstrong and Aldrin descending to the lunar surface, the one regular camera was entrusted to Armstrong, who took pictures of the lundar module, the flag, and of course his companion Aldrin.
