    What was the relationship of the cosmic egg with the stupa, and how did this relationship enter into the Easter tradition?

    		Symbolically the dome of the stupa (the anda) refers to the Cosmic Egg from which the universe sprang, and the stupa thus belongs to that type of sacred building which represents the origin and center of the world, whereas the finial (or yasti) is a version of the axis mundi which unites heaven and earth.

    In Christian times the egg had bestowed upon it a religious interpretation, becoming a symbol of the rock tomb out of which Christ emerged to the new life of His resurrection. The egg has long symbolized birth or re-birth.
