To date, how many jockeys and how many horses have died from running in the Aintree Grand National?

Well Morrigan, that is just those that have died from 1997 to 2001 and the National has been going (officially) since 1839.
It looks as if there hasn't been much record of this in the past.
The number of dead jockeys, however, is on record...

The 25 horses in morrigan's link included other races, not just referring to the Grand National. I read somewhere that 18 horses had been killed in the GN since 1979, including 3 in 1998. I doubt whether reliable records have been kept since the 1830s.

Indeed, Crows, only that one jockey with the inappropriate sounding surname of Wynne has died from the race.
As you say, equine deaths have not been detailed.
I hadn't noticed that Morrison's linked site referred to horse's dying at the whole Aintree meet.
From 2007 I see there is a site called something like "Horse Race Death Watch" that lists every UK horce death due to racing in the UK.
