When cycling from Crianlarich to Bridge of Orchy (Scotland) I came across the village of Tyndrum. Wanting to know how this name was pronounced, I got the answer: "Tin Drum". When my friend asked the same question to another local, the answer was: "Tyne Drum". Which answer should I believe to be the correct one?

The correct way to pronounce it is Tyne Drum.

Thank you. Seems to be confirmed by some Pronouncing Dictionaries I now have been able to check. BBC Pronouncing Dictionary of British Names, G.M. Miller, and the Pronouncing Dictionaries by A.C.Gimson and the one by J.C.Wells. Yet on line I also found 'Tin Drum'.

Makes me wonder whether there is some real "linguistic authority" for the pronunciation of English proper names.
