The poinsettia comes from Mexico and is called 'Flor de la NocheBuena' meaning 'flower of the blessed night.' Poinsettias were introduced to the U.S. by Joel Poinsett in 1825. Now, poinsettias are commercially grown in all 50 states of the U.S. Poinsettias have been in great demand at Christmastime ever since his death in 1851. Its bracts are said to resemble the flower of Bethlehem, therefore it is used to decorate churches at Christmastime.
