Is presenting someone a statue or a piece of owl (it's more common in Spain) for good luck and, if so, what is the reason behind that?

Question #79949. Asked by armindasantana. (May 05 07 2:34 PM)

    All I could find is:

    http://www.owlpages.com/articles.php?section=Owl+Mythology&title=World

"Spain: legend has it that the Owl was once the sweetest of singers, until it saw Jesus crucified. Ever since it has shunned daylight and only repeats the words 'cruz, cruz' ('cross, cross')."

The implication is that it is given as a religious symbol, and not just as a "lucky token" of some sort.
