What Flemish town is famous for a victory of the Duke of Marlborough over the French, for its tapestries that can be recognized by the mark of a pair of specs and for being the place where a famous Emperor had an affair with the daughter of a local tapestry-weaver, which resulted in the bastard child becoming Governor of the Netherlands?

Must be Oudenaarde.
I think I'll stay away from 81002. At least for the time being.
Oudenaarde indeed.I did not find a valid on line reference to the pair of specs, but artbooks do mention it.Margaret of Parma was the name given to tapestry-weaver Vandergheynst's granddaughter.
