Was there another universe discovered or did the person who told me that get their facts mixed up?

I think they are mixed up, the Universe is the whole lot, everything. Our part to just beyond Pluto is a solar system (area around a star(sun)).
The most recent discovery I heard was another planet (outside our solar system) that could be in the right position (to its sun) to hold life. There is the theory of a parallel universe, but you wouldn't see it, and it is unlikely to be proven.

There could be many universes parallel to ours, but as cyprus says, we wouldn't normally be able to see them. Their existence is theoretical, and no actual evidence has been found for them This doesn't stop writers using them in stories (I'm currently juggling several!).
