Well, that doesn't really answer the question.
It describes a segment of the question and does refer to one of the clues involved to answer the question, but a little more oooomph is required, m'dear.

Soldiers who specialized in throwing grenades were the original Grenadiers.
Grenade came from POMEGRANATE (old French = pome grenate) because of the similar size the first hand grenades, and because soldiers thought that the shrapnel resembled the seeds of this fruit.

Well, Frankie is aware of my ability to throw out clues every so often, albeit they are usually as convoluted as the question itself, but this time, I really did throw my aces on the table.
