    It was called Polytechnic Institute of New York in 1973, and changed to Polytechnic University in 1985.

    Prior to Polytechnic University the name was Polytechnic Institute of New York (changed 1986). That name was changed from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1973 after the merger of NYU's school of engineering from the Bronx.
