The Polar Bear is the largest bear, but the Kodiak, or brown bear is the largest "dark" coloured bear (although the heaviest kodiak ever recorded was much heavier than the heaviest polar bear ever recorded).

Define which DARK !
I'm quite sure the skin (underneath the hair/fur) on most bears is quite light, probably even pink.
Just like my black Great Dane, shave his hair off and his skin is very pale, the exact colour depends where on his body you look.
Now Polar Bears are in fact BLACK.
The skin is black to absorb heat.
They only look white because of the translucent guard hairs, which are actually hollow tubes that direct the sun’s rays to the DARK skin and also give buoyancy.
