From what i can gather he is associated with the Battle of Britain in 1940.
Britten (as in the composer) wrote the "War Requiem" due to his anti-war convictions.
Also it could mean the piece itself was taken for his dedication to four of Britten's friends who were killed during World War I.

A Yay!! for Frankie. It pays to read the small print.... One of Dickens's more obscure novels. People say he's a classic writer and everyone should read him. Quote this title and they'll look blankly at you. i do love the names of his characters, though. Dr Soemup and Dr Neeshawts, for example. Not to mention Mrs Anne Chickenstalker and John Peerybingle....
