On AskFT in earlier days there were dinner parties with exotic (to say the least) recipes. Here's one I would hesitate to cook or eat. What would you make from this lot? 4 game pigeons, 6 ox palates, 6 lambs' stones, 6 veal sweetbreads, 20 cockscombs, 4 artichoke bottoms, 1 pint oysters, the marrow of 3 bones, butter, gravy, mace and seasoning - and hard pastry...

The closest I was able to come is a "Battalia Pie."

I love to cook, but this is ridiculous:

A Yay!! with hard crust pastry for Frankie. I agree - it looks ridiculous. However, I'm wondering about the reason for some of the ingredients. Shades of Nanny Ogg....

I'd say the reason for some of the ingredients is pretty obvious.

I really need to investigate "Discworld" more closely. Some of my fellow collectors are slavishly devoted.

How would you enjoy a state dinner in the Roman Empire? Some ingredients are in line with this recipe. No flamingo tongues, though. Those were exotic and costly.

On the other hand, I would venture to say all of our forbears routinely ate every edible part of each beast, bird, and fowl, just as many people still do today. It's a question of economics.

Check out the ingredients in Mexican chorizo....

Those dinner parties were fun, eh Baloo? Reminds me, wonder where Shady and Mibby are these days? The Eye of Newt thingy must have done em in.

Oh, we're quite familiar with Roman banquets around here, qp. I did a dormice question not too long ago (recipe demanded), and they actually sounded pretty good to me.

Shady and mibby always seemed rather stalwart and possessed of great gastrointestinal fortitude. Eye of newt shouldn't have put them off.

    Or Peasy's "mannish water."

Hmmm, two of the worst things I ever tried to eat were muktuk (whale blubber) and anaconda eggs. Not at the same time.

If you close your eyes and think of tofu, Muktuk is actually better (?)...
