How many square feet is the Petit Trianon in France?

    Question #82851. Asked by jetsetter1990. (Jul 03 07 8:42 AM)

    zbeckabee

    Question #82758. jetsetter1990 asks:
How many square feet is the Petit Trianon?
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
    zbeckabee posts:

    18,000 SQUARE FEET

It has 22 rooms, 18,000 square feet of living space, a three-tier backyard, original Bruce Porter stained-glass windows, nine stone and wood carved fireplaces, four cloth-lined elevators, parking for seven cars, Baccarat crystal chandeliers and a ballroom with mirrored panels and minstrel balconies that accommodates 100 guests -- all on a half-acre lot.

Le Petit Trianon, a replica of a mansion built for French King Louis XV at Versailles around 1768, is both a San Francisco and national landmark, which could explain the 30 showings it has had since it went on the market in mid-September.

Repeat Question -- Trust me...the Petit Trianon has NOT grown or shrunk since Sunday.

You answered with the square footage of the Petit Trianon replica in San Francisco and not a very good replica at that; as far as I know they do not have the same square footage.

Well, jet, zbeck did her best, but I'm not finding this information online or in my own art and architecture library. If you really want to know, I suggest that you contact the curators via the official site:

Obviously...I did NOT do my best.

Please accept my apologies...I was absolutely NOT paying attention and didn't realize I'd posted wrong information. Again, my sincere apologies!

    by Alain De Gourcuff (Author)

I suspect you can find your answer in this book:

zbeckabee it was an easy mistake to make, don't beat yourself up about it. I e-mailed the curator specifically designated to the Petit Trianon and I hope she will find an answer for me...but even then there are secret passages in the building so I don't know how accurate the estimate I receive will be. Thanks for all your help!

Just so you know: "Views and Plans of the Petit Trianon" is actually a publication of late 18th-century watercolors commissioned by Marie-Antoinette and published by Alain de Gourcuff several years ago.
