There is no Independence Day and the 26th of January is the anniversary of the arrival of the First Fleet, and is known as Australia Day (or Invasion Day depending on your heritage.) On the other hand Australia reached nationhood on the 1st of January 1901, when an act of the British Parliament was proclaimed to allow the 6 colonies to federate into the Commonwealth of Australia - the Federation of Australia. However this event is generally speaking not celebrated - probably due to hangovers.
