In the UK, at the present what percentage of electricity is produced by coal fired power stations, and is this likely to rise or fall with de-commissioning of nuclear power plants? Or will wind power ever get a foot hold in electricity production in the UK.

For fans of wind power here is a quote from The Scotsman following a cost-benefit analysis of wind power.

"Scotland’s largest wind farm, near Peebles, may not have the economic and ecological benefits that have been promised, says a new report.

The figure they give is a maximum of 20% wind power in total as the wind is not reliable and will always need a backup so barely worth the trouble to start with.

Nuclear (Plutonium Reactor or the Sun) is the only answer for power production.

Solar is also variable and not yet cost effective.

Just had to put in my 3 cents!
