I remember watching a film about a murder where the body completely dissolved when put into a tank of acid. Is that possible, and if so, what acid could do that?

The film was probably about John Haigh, the so called Acid Bath Murderer. He apparently shot his victims, then disposed of their bodies in a tub of sulphuric acid. However, not everything dissolved, notably some bones and also gallstones.

Commercially available superacids include trifluoromethanesulfonic acid (CF3SO3H), also known as triflic acid, and fluorosulfuric acid (FSO3H), both of which are about a thousand times stronger than sulfuric acid.

yes it is possible for acid to dissolve human flesh. but, acid can only do that if it has a low number on the PH scale.
