    Did Fonzie ride a Harley?

    Question #83909. Asked by star_gazer. (Jul 28 07 1:26 PM)

This has been asked before, but the answer is vague and undocumented. No idea what a "Harley Triumph" is supposed to be.

    Question #17213. Socrates asks:
On the show 'Happy Days' what make of motorcycle does Fonzi drive?

    monkeycouzin posted:

There appears to be more than answer to this question - The Fonz (Henry Winkler) rode at least two different bikes on the show - the initial model, ridden in the earlier episodes, is the subject of some dispute among bike buffs althoughit was most likely a Harley Sportster.

In an online chat, Winkler himself merely referred to the early bike as a 'hog,' but adds that it was so big all he could do was lean against it. He identifies the bike ridden in the later episodes as a Harley Triumph.

Simple answer from the source I found is "yes". At least in the early episodes.

In the very early episodes he rode custom Harley-Davidson models. In the later episodes he rides a Triumph motorcycle. Overall, the Fonz drove a variety of models including Harley Panhead, Harley Knucklehead, Harley Sportster, Triumph 500 CC Twin, Trophy 650 CC and a BSA.

Fonzie's motorcycle is a Triumph custom street motorcycle seen on the sitcom “Happy Days” on ABC from 1974 to 1984. Arthur "Fonzie" Fonazarelli, an ultra-cool Italian-American garage mechanic with former ties to a street gang (The Falcons), was portrayed on the show by actor Henry Winkler.

To get around his home turf of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Fonz rode a motorcycle. In the very early episodes he rode custom Harley-Davidson models. In the later episodes he rode a Triumph.

"I never knew how to ride a motorcycle," said Winkler. "As a matter of fact in the credits I ride up the driveway of the Cunningham home. That was the only time I ever rode the motorcycle, and I didn't quite know how to stop it so I kept going and nearly killed the director of photography and smashed into the sound truck."
