If a 15-year-old has a big role in an R-rated movie, could they attend the premiere of said movie, or would they still be restricted from seeing it?

So they would just go with their Mom or Dad.

Premieres are exempt from any restrictions.

I remember watching an interview of Dakota Fanning a year or two ago where she stated that she went to see the premiere of her movie 'Man on Fire' but she didn't really understand all of it. I'm not sure if she was with her parents or not (though I'm assuming it's something that they would expect considering their school-aged daughter is in the film).

I always assumed that the film ratings are simply guidelines. I don't think they are laws...in the U.S. anyway...and that it is left to the discretion of the theater company on how strictly to adhere to the recommendations. It's not like selling alcohol or cigarettes to minors, which is actually against the law. Of course we all hope that parents everywhere are mindful of what their children are watching. I have a 16 yr old son who is not allowed to go to R rated movies. But I am sure a 15 yr old actor would be able to attend his own movie premiere (and probably get paid for going!)

Worst comes to worst, the kid can always rent the DVD.

Hollywood/New York Premiers are INVITATIONAL and therefore no such restrictions are in place.

On that note, star_gazer, can a minor rent an unrated movie? Are there even restrictions to renting?
